USAID Awards Casals & Associates a Transparency and Governance Project in Paraguay
International Development and Strategic Communications - News Releases >>

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – October 1, 2009 — The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded Casals & Associates, Inc. a $9.3 million follow-on project aimed at reducing corruption and impunity in Paraguay.

The project, awarded as a task order under the Encouraging Global Anticorruption and Good Governance Efforts (ENGAGE) Indefinite Quality Contract (IQC), is a follow on to the $21.8 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Threshold Country Program Casals managed in Paraguay between 2006 and 2009. Like the previous project, the new one is aimed at assisting the Government of Paraguay (GOP) with its fight against corruption and impunity. It will be implemented over a two-year period in coordination with the MCC.

The project will be comprised of six components. Each component will focus on building the capacity of a different GOP institution(s) to promote transparency and good governance:

  • Prosecutor’s office
  • Administrative tribunal
  • Control systems
  • Customs office
  • Intellectual property rights institutions
  • National police
